20h30 j'amarre au quai et contacte la douane. Le signal cellulaire n'est pas fort. Je perd une fois la communication avec les agents, mais la seconde fois sera la bonne. Bienvenue au Canada me disent-ils au téléphone. Il ne sera pas nécessaire de rencontrer un agent. Un appel suffira. Je me prépare donc pour la nuit dans un port de pêche ou le marnage (différence entre la marrée basse et haute) est de 17 pieds. Pas évident. Je vois un quai flottant, j'irai m'y accrocher pour la nuit paisible sans aucune inquiétude.<br />

Vendredi 18 mai, je prends la mer avec l'intention de terminer la journée au quai flottant du Market Square à St-Jean, N.-B. et traverser les chutes réversibles samedi matin. <br />

En milieu d'avant-midi, je dépasse Pointe Lepreau. Je capte les stations radio de St-Jean et apprends que la ville aura de la visite royale dans les prochains jours. Cela me préoccupe. Je contacte la garde côtière afin de vérifier si des mesures de sécurité ou restrictions à la navigation pourraient perturber mon plan de navigation. La route est libre. Je profite de cet appel pour vérifier la présence du quai flottant de Market Square. Non...pas encore installé pour la saison.... merde ! Je demande une proposition de solution alternative. L'opérateur radio de la garde-côtière contacte le harbour master de St-Jean. Rien de disponible pour un petit bateau si tôt en saison. Avec plus de 22 pieds de marnage, pas évident de s'amarrer dans le port de St-Jean.En début d'après-midi. je vois derrière Coleson Cove une petite baie qui ferai bien un bel ancrage de nuit. Il suffit de laisser amplement de cablot sur l'ancre pour compenser l'amplitude de la marée. J'y entre vers 14hé La houle promet une nuit plutôt agitée. Vers l'heure du souper, je change une nouvelle fois mon plan. Je lève l'ancre et reprend la route vers St-Jean et passerai les chutes réversibles à l'étale de 21h10.</div>

Les chutes réversibles de St-Jean représentent un obstacle à ne pas
prendre à la légère. Les très forts courants de ces chutes offrent 4
périodes d'étale ( calme ) d'une durée de 10 minutes à mi-marée
pour y passer. Pas de temps à perdre. 20h je suis devant le Market
Square. Je tourne en rond pendant environ 45 minutes. <br />

20h45 Je remontre à contre courant le dernier passage vers les
chutes. Le bateau fait à peine entre 2 et 3 noeuds. 21h04 je suis
devant les chutes. Je me lance. Ça brasse un peu. Et la vitesse baisse
parfois a moins de 1.5 noeuds. La profondeur joue au yoyo. 100 pieds,
150 pieds, 60 pieds, 20 pieds... 21h14 je reprend de la vitesse, 2
noeuds, 3 noeuds, et finalement 5 noeuds...WOW.. j'ai franchis les
chutes réversibles. <br />

22h00 je jette l'ancre dans une anse peu profonde non loin de la marina de St-Jean, bien à l'abri du vent.<br />
Samedi 19 mai. Tôt dans la journée je commence à préparer le bateau pour le démâtage. J'enlève les voiles etc... 10h je lève l'ancre et me dirige vers la marina. Mais soudain alors que je ne suis qu'a quelques centaines de mètres de la marina... PAS DE MARINA ! Décidément, y'en aura pas de facile. Je vérifie mes cartes, contacte la garde côtière pour la coordonnée, latitude et longitude, de la marina. La seule réponde que j'obtiens est que la marina est située à la jonction de la rivière St-Jean et la Kennebecasis. Je scrute à l'aide des jumelles et note ce qui pourrait être une marina, un peu au nord de ma position. Je m'y avance et vois apparaitre petit à petit les mats de voiliers. Marina droit devant !<br />
Quelques ami-es m'y accueillent. Ma fille que je n'ai pas vu depuis janvier est aussi de la partie.<br />

Ici comme au Maine, la saison n'est pas encore lancée. Quelques quais flottants permettent d'accoster mais la plupart des bateaux ne sont pas encore à l'eau. 13h l'opérateur de la grue est sur place. Le mat d'expresseau sera doucement couché et le bateau est maintenant prêt pour le transport sur route vers Shédiac prévu dimanche. <br />

J'ai donc prolongé un peu l'escale de Portsmouth afin d'éviter de naviguer dans ces conditions difficiles. À cette saison, les plus hardis plaisanciers du coins commencent à peine à mettre leurs bateaux à l'eau. Je suis le premier navigateur de passage cette saison dans une marina quasi déserte. À deux coins de rue, Henry's Market, un petit magasin général / café sera mon repaire. Lieu d'autant plus agréable, que les propriétaires de l'entreprise ont passé le mois de février aux Bahamas sur leur voilier.<br />

Qui dit Maine, dit pêche au homard. Les passages entre les iles du Maine se fait dans des plans d'eau tapissés d'un nombre incroyable de bouées. À la voile, ces bouées ne représentent pas un problème. Même en les côtoyant de près, elles glissent aisément sous le bateau grâce à une invention bien d'ici, un poids qui cale le cordage et évite qu'il s'accroche à la quille ou au safran (gouvernail). Mais à moteur, mieux vaut être prudent, l'hélice aime bien les cordages. Quand soudain, ce qui devait arriver, arriva. BANG BANG BANG sous le bateau. J'en ai attrapé une. Vite je met le moteur au neutre. Merde ! Cela allait trop bien ! Me voilà bien pris et je suis assez loin au large. J'ai deux options : appeler Tow Boat US, la compagnie de remorquage, pour l'envoi d'un plongeur ou effectuer la tâche moi-même. Aucune des deux options ne me sourit. Tow Boat US mettra surement un bon 4 heures à atteindre ma position. Plonger ici, même avec un wetsuit, dans cette mer un peu agitée, ne me semble pas l'idée du siècle. Et la question se pose : Est-ce que j'ai brisé quelque chose : l'hélice, le support de l'axe ou quoi encore... Est-ce la fin du voyage... je n'arrive pas à y croire. Si près de la maison. Je suis découragé. En désespoir de cause, je tente un coup de dé. Je met le moteur en marche arrière pour libérer la bouée... BANG BANG BANG... Je remet en marche avant... BANG BANG...et soudain, le miracle se produit... tout se remet à tourner rondement. Expresseau reprend sa vitesse de croisière. Et en plus, la bouée refait surface. Ce pêcheur ne perdra pas sa cage. Il aura tout au plus à remplacer une bouée légèrement éméchée. OUF.............<br />

Le petit paradis de Northeast Harbour, bien blottis entre les montagnes de Mount Desert Island est tranquille en ce mois de mai. Seuls les pêcheurs de homard viennent troubler sa tranquillité. La marina est en rénovation. Pas de réponse au téléphone ni à la radio VHF. Un gars du coin me suggère un emplacement où m'attacher en attendant de pouvoir contacter le maitre de quai. Le poste d'essence sur le quai n'est pas encore ouvert... peut-être la semaine prochaine. Je suis à deux ou trois jours de navigation de ma destination finale, Saint-Jean, Nouveau-Brunswick, mais je devrai patienter. Les prochains jours vont être froids, venteux et pluvieux. <br />

Northeast Harbour offre tout ce que le marin de passage peut espérer trouver. Un magasin général bien garni en fruits, légumes, viandes etc... Une quincaillerie marine, bibliothèque municipale avec internet, tout cela à 5 minutes de marche de la marina. Avec un petit chariot, j'apporterai mes deux bidons vides au garage du coin afin de refaire le plein de diésel.<br />

Fin de journée, je me dirige vers Sakonnet River pour un ancrage. De chaque côté de ma route, je distingue deux groupes de bouées assez éloignés l'un de l'autre. J'observe à l'aide des jumelles. Rien entre les deux. Le passage est libre. Dans une demi-heure je serai ancré et un chaud repas viendra récompenser la journée. Soudain, juste devant, un filet dont les flotteurs sont calés à un pied de la surface. Trop tard pour réagir, voila qu'expresseau pousse sur le filet qui glisse lentement sous la quille... pourvu qu'il ne remonte pas entre la quille et le safran (gouvernail) pour s'entortiller dans l'hélice. Le bateau ralentit.. le filet passe derrière la quille et reste bien enfoncé sous l'eau. Expresseau est libre de poursuivre sa route.<br />

La progression du jour sera un peu pénible. Vent de face, la vague ralentira souvent Expresseau. Parfois à moins de 2 noeuds. Le moteur peinera à faire son travail. Parfois le bateau reprendra un peu de vitesse pour se replonger dans 3 ou 4 vagues successives et ralentir à nouveau.<br />

Lundi 7 mai. Je suis à l'entrée du Cape Cod Canal et la marée va jouer en ma faveur. Dès ma sortie de Onset la marée s'empare d'expresseau et le propulse à 10 noeuds vers l'est. La ballade dans Cape se fera en un clin d'oeil. La journée commence bien. Un peu de vent permet aussi de continuer à un bon rythme une fois le canal traversé.<br />

23 heures, je jette l'ancre à Portsmouth. Au réveil je me dirige vers le yacht club du coin. Plein d'essence. Je suis le premier navigateur à destination nord à passer si tôt en saison. La marina est à peine ouverte. Les bouées de mouillages ( moorings) ne sont pas encore prêts pour la saison. Hors saison les quais sont à 22$ la nuit, une aubaine. Bel endroit pour attendre le retour du beau temps. <br />

Mardi 1 mai c'est le déluge au petit matin. L'heure du départ est retardé. C'est aujourd'hui que je me sépare de mes deux compagnons de mers. Je dois entrer dans la East River vers l'heure du midi si je veut traverser New-York. Autrement le fort courant de Hells Gate deviendra infranchissable.<br />9h00 la pluie cesse... Moteur !<br />Un léger courant nous ralentit. Le temps se faire rare, mais je pense tout de même passer à temps. 11h30, le pont Verrazano... C'est serré...<br />

Passé le pont, la garde côtière patrouille et c'est ESPRIT V qui obtient le numéro gagnant. Il aura droit à l'inspection de luxe, la totale... Papiers, passeports, permis de croisière etc... Inspection des sanitaires ( qui doivent répondre aux normes ) compartiment moteur etc... etc... Une bonne demi-heure de plaisir avec les autorités.<br />

Si il m'interceptent à mon tour pour une inspection, je manquerai surement de temps pour traverser la ville aujourd'hui. Heureusement ESPRIT V sera leur seule prise du matin.<br />Vers 13h je franchis Hells Gate sans encombre. Le radar sera mon ami pour la journée. L'ancrage du soir, dans un superbe archipel à l'est de New Heaven, CT ou sont bâties de superbes résidences d'été.<br />

Le temps n'est pas tout à fait au beau, mais on a des fourmis dans les jambes, moi et les quatre autres bateaux du Québec qui forment maintenant un petit convoi vers la maison.<br />
Lundi 23 avril, la traversée des écluses et de quelques ponts nous permettra de nous rendre Hospital Point à Norfolk. Le plan initial devait nous amener à Hampton River, mais des vents forts et de la pluie ont eu raison de nos plans. <br />

Le départ est sonné à 3h le matin du mercredi 25 avril. La fenêtre météo est bonne pour une longue traversée vers Cape May. Durée prévue environ 30 heures. Au lever du jour, nous franchissons le pont-tunnel de la Chesapeake. Il y a beaucoup de trafic. Huit immenses cargos attendent leur tour pour faire leur entrée dans la Chesapeake. La prochain cargos a faire son entrée lance un appel VHF aux deux petits voiliers. Il s'informe de nos intentions, il doit se mettre en marche sous peu. Je lui propose de traverser immédiatement le chenal, juste après le pont pour ainsi lui laisser le chemin libre. Il accepte. <br />

Le vendredi 27 avril se fera sous le signe du repos. Mais la nuit de vendredi à samedi sera tout autrement pour certains navigateurs. Vers 5 heures du matin le vent se lève. Il soufflera à plus de 25 noeuds (50km/h) certains bateaux ont chassé. ( L'ancre à glissé sur le fond marin) Au lever du jour celui-ci est immobilisé dans le banc de vase. Un remorqueur vient à sa rescousse. Impossible de le sortir de sa fâcheuse situation. Il faudra attendre plus d'une heure pour que la marée remonte et lui permette de se dégager.<br />

Vers 8h Expresseau et Aquaphile se dirigent vers la marina. Mais la nuit venteuse à laissé des traces. Les ancres qui n'ont pas chassé ont pénétré profondément dans la vase. Celui d'expresseau sera relevé au prix de longs efforts. Un autre bateau y renonce. Il laissera une bouée au bout de son cablot d'ancre et se dirigera aussi vers la marina en espérant que demain sera moins venteux pour la récupérer. Comme à chaque matin, plein d'essence, vérifier le niveau d'huile et c'est le départ. À peine sorti de la marina, j'ouvre le compartiment du moteur... Horreur il y a de l'huile partout... J'ai mal replacé la tige pour vérifier l'huile... Vous imaginez le résultat... J'arrête tout. Je dépose des linges absorbant sous le moteur. Rajoute un peu d'huile et reprend mon chemin... Le ménage se fera presque tout seul. Ce sera une longue journée à moteur, par temps calme qui m'amène encore un peu plus vers la maison. En fin d'après-midi j'ai une décision à prendre. Arrêter maintenant soit 16h, ou continuer et traverser le long canal Pongo Alligator et arriver vers 20h au prochain lieu d'ancrage. Nous nous retrouverons 8 bateaux ancrés au sud d'Alligator River pour une soirée calme.<br />
Ce sera un peu moins calme le matin du jeudi 19 avril. Le vent souffle du nord sur Alligator River. Remontée un peu pénible de la rivière ou Expresseau est sans cesse ralenti par les vagues. Mais cela aurait pu être pire... Vers 11h, le bateau qui me précède me lance un appel. Un morceau d'arbre de 15pouces de diamètre et 5 pieds de long flotte dans le canal au nord du marqueur vert 131. Merci pour l'info... Frapper cette pièce de bois aurait définitivement ralenti la progression du jour.<br />

Avec ce vent de nord, il aurait été trop difficile de tenter de traverser Albermarle Sound face au vent et la vague. Ce plan d'eau que j'ai franchi le 8 novembre forme facilement une vague haute et courte qui brasse ceux qui tentent de l'affronter dans des conditions moins qu'idéales. Je me dirige donc en en début d'après-midi vers la marina située juste après le pont. Pas d'ancrage possible par ici avec ce vent de nord. <br />
Jeudi 19 avril. Le vent est léger au matin et la traversée d'Albermarle Sound se fait sur une mer d'huile.<br />

Et soudain... le moteur qui a des ratés. Décidément ce n'est pas ma semaine. Il semble très mal prendre son diésel. Premier suspect : un réservoir presque vide. Tout de suite j'utilise un bidon pour refaire le plein que j'ai négligé ce matin. Rien n'y fait, le problème persiste. Je jette l'ancre en bordure de l'intracoastal. La dernière fois que j'ai changé les filtres à essence c'était aux Bahamas. Le diésel des Bahamas n'a pas très bonne réputation... peut-être les filtres sont-ils saturés de détritus... Vite changeons-les. C'est lors de cette opération que je trouve le véritable coupable. Une conduite diésel près du filtre primaire est desserrée, surement à cause des vibrations du moteur. Elle laisse surement entrer un peu d'air dans les conduites.<br />
Après 35 minutes d'arrêt c'est un nouveau le départ avec un moteur qui ronronne comme un chaton.<br />

Malgré ce contretemps, la journée progresse bien. Je regarde les options du jour et décide de continuer jusqu'à l'écluse. La plupart des ponts ouvrent à demande, mais en approchant de Norfolk, certains n'ouvrent seulement qu'aux heures ou à la demi. En approchant celui de Turnpike le temps ne joue pas en ma faveur et mon arrivée se fera vraisemblablement vers 18h35... Juste un peu trop tard. J'appelle l'opérateur et demande la prochains ouverture de 19h. Celui-ci me répond très gentiment. '' C'est toi le petit rouge que je vois arriver du sud, amène-toi, je vais t'ouvrir.'' Juste avant l'écluse, il y a un muret ou quelques bateaux peuvent s'attacher gratuitement pour 24 heures. J'y passerai la nuit en compagnie de deux bateaux québecois. La température des prochains jours prévoit froid, pluie et vents forts du nord. Croisons-nous les doigts et tentons de prolonger notre séjour ici jusqu'à ce qu'une bonne fenêtre météo permette un passage en pleine mer vers Cape May en début de semaine prochaine.<br />

J'empoigne le pilote automatique et le met hors d'usage pour reprendre manuellement le contrôle d'Expresseau, éviter la collision et le rediriger dans le droit chemin. <br />

Plaisir et économies sont au rendez-vous. Une fois ou deux par semaine, j'irai à terre pour faire les provisions, lavage etc... Je sais qu'une fois l'intracoastal terminé, à Norfolk Virginie, les caprices de dame nature viendront surement me clouer ça et là en attente d'une belle météo pour poursuivre mon chemin le long de la côte atlantique des États-Unis.<br />

Lundi 9 avril, je poursuit à l'intérieur. La remontée vers le nord se fait beaucoup plus rapidement que lors de la descente à l'automne. Les journées sont plus longues, le temps de navigation aussi et je joue peu les touristes. Peu après l'heure du souper, un ancrage possible dans une rivière. J'y pénètre lentement et retrouve d'autre navigateurs bien blottis au fond de ce bassin bien abrité.<br />

Nous sommes à peu de distance, on se promet de faire un bout de chemin ensemble. En fin de journée, j'opte pour Parrot River mais un banc de sable bloque son entrée. Mon nouveau compagnon de voyage m'invite à le rejoindre à Bull River.<br />

Mercredi 11 avril, une autre journée à moteur. Le léger vent de nord des derniers jours ne permettent que peu de voile. Mais les réserves de carburant fondent. Ce serait miser juste que de tenter d'atteindre la destination du jour sans arrêter pour faire le plein. Je dois donc faire un petit détour. B&B seafood est le seul poste d'essence en vue. J'essaie de m'y aventurer... peine perdue... pas assez d'eau. Je saute donc dans le zodiac avec mes trois bidons et m'y précipite. B&B seafood est un tout petit poste de pêche. Je passe devant sans le voir. Je demande à deux pêcheurs travaillant sur un crevettier en lambeaux où il se trouve.... Ah.. juste derrière moi... mais il est fermé... merde ! En repassant devant, je vois un homme en train de faire le plein d'un camion.. je débarque... oui c'est fermé, mais il accepte quand même de me vendre du diésel ! Ouf...<br />
Je reprend la route juste à temps pour me faufiler devant cette immense barge poussée par un remorqueur. Mais il est légèrement plus rapide que moi. Je le laisse me dépasser et poursuit ma journée dans son sillage.<br />

La nuit seras venteuse.<br />
Minuit... une rafale de vents... le bateau danse... un peu trop... je me lève et vérifie ma position à vue et sur le GPS... Merde... l'ancre chasse... ( glisse sur le fond marin ) c'est la première fois que cela arrive. Je me dirige lentement mais surement vers un autre voilier. Je m'habille en catastrophe. Je sort. L'anémomètre indique 25 noeuds de vents ( 50km/h). La rafale qui à fait chasser l'ancre devait au moins faire 35 noeuds ( 70km/h ). Le fort courant en face de Charleston n'a surement pas aidé lui non plus... Vite, partir le moteur, lever l'ancre et avancer pour la reposer un peu plus loin. Une demi-heure de veille me rassurera sur le sort du nouvel ancrage et je retrouverai le sommeil.<br />
Jeudi 12 avril, journée de pause. La marina du coin ne permet pas aux navigateurs ancrés d'utiliser leurs douches. Le paysage est familier. C'est via ce canal maritime intérieur bien protégé que j'ai navigué vers le sud de novembre au début janvier. Pour le retour, les passages en Atlantique seront plus fréquents lorsque la météo le permettra. Le pélerinage vers le nord se fera un peu plus rapidement que celui vers le sud étant donné l'absence d'escales touristiques.<br />

Ça et là, des navigateurs de retour des Bahamas font leur apparition. En contournant St-Augustine, mon voisin de quai pendant une semaine à Freeport, originaire des Iles Vierges Américaines, fait son apparition. Certains retournant à la maison, d'autres transportant leur bateau vers un port où ils seront remisés pendant quelques mois en attendant un autre périple vers les iles aux eaux chaudes et magnifiques.<br />

Beaucoup plus rassurant pour les plans de navigation. Il y a aussi la présence d'aide à la navigation, bouées, feux, marqueurs qui rendent la navigation plus facile.<br />
Naviguer en sol américain c'est aussi retrouver l'omniprésence de l'infrastructure militaire. Le son assourdissant des avions de combat en est le premier signe tangible.<br />

Parfois en l'aidant ou parfois en lui opposant sa force et le ralentissant considérablement pendant plusieurs heures.<br />

Juste avant d'arriver au croisement de la rivière St-John, ce ralentissement donne le temps aux paquebots et cargos de passer leur chemin ce qui me permet de traverser un plan d'eau libre de tout obstacle.<br />

Le vent de travers et une légère houle fera de cette traversée un grand moment de voile.<br />
16h00 les premières formes des immeubles autour de Fort Pierce se profilent à l'horizon.<br />
Un groupe de dauphins viennent me souhaiter la bienvenue. Ils sont une demi-douzaine à danser autour d'Expresseau et prennent un joli plaisir a se faufiler devant l'étrave du bateau. <br />
17h30 je suis à 30mins de l'entrée du goulet. Je commence à avoir faim. Si tout va bien je serai ancré vers 18h30 et pourrai savourer cette superbe traversée.<br />
Mais le vent tourne. Je met le moteur pour parcourir les deux derniers miles.<br />
Le vent s'intensifie pour atteindre les 25 noeuds et la vague se forme de plus en plus elle aussi. Le bateau est constamment ralenti dans les creux de vagues qui arrivent de face et peine à maintenir une vitesse moyenne de 2.5 noeuds.<br />
Cela prendra une heure et quart pour atteindre l'entrée du goulet où une autre surprise m'attend.<br />
La marée est descendante à son plus fort. Un courant de 3 noeuds s'oppose à Expresseau dans le chenal j'avance donc encore à pas de tortue.<br />

20h00 je jette finalement l'ancre. L'aventure des Bahamas est terminé. Il me reste encore la longue remontée vers la maison. Le bateau voisin est un bateau de Montréal. J'avais rencontré ce couple à Titusville au début décembre. Je sais via le blog de plusieurs navigateurs que certains ont déjà entamé la remontée vers le nord et que d'autres s'apprêtent à le faire. Au plaisir de se revoir dans l'intracoastal.<br />

Dernière étape du jour, je contacte le service des douanes américains pour signaler mon entrée au pays de l'oncle Sam. Je devrai me présenter à leur bureau à l'aéroport de Fort Pierce dans les prochaines 24 heures.<br />

Vendredi 30 mars, au matin à Mangroove Cay, une tortue d'environ deux pieds de diamètre pointe son nez. Juste assez longtemps pour la voir, mais pas assez pour la photographier. La plongée matinale nous laisse découvrir un dessous un peu sale d'Expresseau sans doute due en partie au temps passé à quai à Freeport avec un soleil de plomb.<br />

Un petit nettoyage s'impose avent de reprendre la route vers West End, dernière escale d'Expresseau avant de retourner vers les États-Unis. Le séjour de Kim et Trévor aura été une superbe belle façon de terminer ce périple de deux mois et demi aux Bahamas. En réalité il est en manoeuvre d'accostage , Il avance probablement à moins de 1 noeud et je fais 5 noeuds. Aucune difficulté à le devancer. À un moment donné j'ai l'impression qu'il doute de mes intentions. Il envoie 5 courts coups à l'aide de sa corne de brume. Cela signifie danger. À ce moment il est de plus en plus près. Il me coupe même le vent. Un bon coup de moteur permettra de le devancer de façon très sécuritaire.<br />

Je suis à West End avec Kim et trevor. On attenda une meilleure météo pour aller vers Grand Cay...demain peut-être.<br />

L'escale se prolongera à West End en raison de la météo. West End est plein à craquer. Lors des passages précédents, seulement quelques bateaux y séjournaient.<br />

Cette pause me donnera l'occasion d'initier Trevor à la plongée colorée des Bahamas.<br />

Et la soirée se terminera sur le catamaran d'un couple d'australiens en compagnie d'un autre couple d'américains.<br />

L'habituel changement d'huile sera suivi d'une petite séance de mécanique dans un endroit inaccessible. Le joint d'étanchéité de l'arbre de l'hélice coule un peu. Quelques contorsions dans le compartiment moteur et un quart de tour sur la bague de serrage et le tout est joué.<br />

Lors de mon retour de Bimini, le moteur a eu quelques ratés. Il semblait parfois mal prendre son diésel. De plus quelques cuillerées de carburant se sont retrouvés dans la cale ce qui n'est pas normal. Le coupable est facilement identifié. Le filtre primaire de diésel était légèrement dévissé, laissant à la fois entrer un peu d'air dans le système et également couler un peu de diésel. <br />

Une bonne décision : Partir et traverser vers Freeport. J'attendais depuis trois jours une bonne météo pour traverser vers Freeport. La fenêtre météo n'était pas parfaite, le vent était un peu dans le nez, mais autrement il aurait fallu attendre un autre trois jours pour avoir une météo idéale. Trois bateaux sont partis de Bimini ce matin.<br />
<br />
Une mauvaise décision : Partir et faire une croix sur l'invitation à souper entre amis navigateurs lancée par un couple de New York.<br />

Depuis quelques jours aux Bimini, les navigateurs de passage en attente d'une bonne météo pour poursuivre leur chemin se sont liés d'amitié. Les cafés, apéros et soupers se sont multipliés. Les échanges d'histoires de mer ont permis de très bien passer le temps.<br />

Vendredi 16 mars au lever du jour, nous sommes impatients de reprendre la mer. Vers 7h, les moteurs sont en marche. Au sortir de Alicetown, quel plaisir de rencontrer Allezgo, ancré en face du chenal. C'est sur ce catamaran que nous avons célébré, début février, le départ de Caroline ma coéquipière. Allezgo se dirige vers la Floride d'où la famille retournera éventuellement vers Montréal. <br />

Longeant les Bimini, en face de Paradise Point, un jeune dauphin m'offre un super spectacle. Les dauphins font habituellement le dos rond autour d'expresseau. Celui-ci saute complètement hors de l'eau à 5 reprises alors qu'il dépasse le voilier. Spectacle absolument merveilleux.<br />
<br />
Le passage se fait au près serré, aidé du moteur pour mieux pointer dans le vent. À mi-chemin le vent de 15 noeuds nord-est augmente légèrement et tourne un peu plus vers l'est. La vague se forme un peu plus et des moutons blancs apparaissent sur celles-ci. Mais ces moutons ont la fâcheuse habitude de grimper sur la proue d'expresseau et se projeter en l'air. Jamais le bateau n'a produit autant d'éclaboussures par une mer de 3 à 4 pieds. Le pont du bateau est constamment inondé et j'en reçoit régulièrement ma part. Après une demi-heure de ce manège, les choses se calment.<br />

Au coeur du village de Alicetown, nombre d'ancien motels, hôtels et commerces sont à l'abandon. À une certaine époque, Alicetown devait fourmiller de touristes. Mais comme un peu partout aux Bahamas, cela doit sûrement remonter à plus de trente ans.<br />

Je m'engage dans un étroit corridor entre les édifices, il y a des déchets partout. Je monte l'escalier pour le rejoindre à l'étage. L'ambiance est lugubre, dans quel trou me suis-je fourré.<br />

Les anciennes chambres de ce motel où s'entassent les vieux matelas et vieux meubles sont toujours habités par des gens du coin. Pas un touriste n'oserait passer la nuit ici, tout tombe en lambeaux. Dans la troisième chambre, un congélateur. À l'intérieur, proprement et précieusement enveloppés dans des sacs ziplocs, du homard et du crabe en quantité. Il demande 40$ pour un sac de 10 queues de homard, je lui en offre 30$, la moyenne habituellement payé pour cette quantité, il accepte. Il insiste pour envelopper le tout dans un sac d'épicerie. Au nord de l'Ile, le feu indiquant la présence d'un rocher est bien entendu inexistant. Le GPS et la radar me permettrons d'atteindre mon point d'ancrage bien à l'abri vers 20h et y passe une nuit paisible à l'est de Paradise Point. J'aurai droit en guise de récompense à une voute céleste où les étoiles scintillent par milliers, et un lever de pleine lune absolument merveilleux. <br />
Samedi 10 mars, au lever du soleil, je me déplace vers une épave, au sud de South Bimini. Le temps est super beau, le vent léger, beau temps pour la plongée.<br />

Habituellement ces épaves sont le lieux de résidence de nombreuses espèces de poissons. Je jette l'ancre à proximité, mais il y a un hic. Pas trop sécuritaire de plonger seul dans une épave où le courant, même si il ne semble pas trop important, pourrait m'entraîner au loin. Je me résigne et m'installe pour un bon dîner. Au moment où je m'apprête à partir, un autre bateau s'ancre juste à côté... Super ! Je me jette à l'eau et j'en profite pendant plus d'une heure.<br />
